BARMALEY !

A Russian Tale of Piracy, Cannibalism and Redemption

By Cornelius Chukovsky

Chorus:

Listen kids, now listen up! You don’t want to get eaten up!

So watch out if you travel far – and don’t run off to Zanzibar!

Zanzibar is full of sharks, Leopards prowling after dark,

Hippos, apes and crocodiles, full of sharp and hungry smiles

They would love to nibble you, bite your toes and munch your shoes.

So listen up kids, listen hard – and don’t run off to Zanzibar!

Narrator 1:

Away in far-off Zanzibar, there lives a scoundrel knave

His favorite snack is CHILDREN! His name is BARMALYEY!

He runs around in Zanzibar with greedy, drooling jaws

That pirate wants to GET YOU – he lives by his own laws.

And Daddy-dear and Mommy-dear are lounging in the den

And Daddy-dear and Mommy-dear will tell you yet again.

Mommy:

Zanzibar is scary. Oh yes, yes, yes.

Daddy:

Zanzibar could be hairy. Oh yes, yes, yes…

Shopping for Holiday

Ok. So the Holiday has officially started. I’m still in Milano but tomorrow I will fly to Zanzibar for my deserved week of total break from the city, and everything that comes with it. So yesterday we went shopping to buy some of the missing stuff but all we end up buying was a lot of books (we bought 6…they should be enough for this holiday, especially considering that I am not planning to read all the time) an a lot of tees. Not that I needed any tee to be honest, but those new arrivals in H&M looked too nice to be left there (this is something I hate and I love about H&M: things are so cheap that you will end up buying them even if you don’t need them at all…). Today I went through some more shopping but much more boring this time, cause I had to get all those medicine and stuff that are needed when you go to Africa… I still forgot the plug adapter, hope to remember tomorrow at the airport…otherwise no technology for one week! and maybe it would be too much :)

Quote of the Day #02

Yesterday a friend of mine posted this on his facebook status:
“Les plus beaux paradis sont ceux qu’on a perdu”
which means:
“The most beautiful paradises are those we have lost” .
Actually I don’t know who’s quote is this (maybe it is from my friend) but I like the feeling of nostalgia and irreparable loss that comes with it. Which doesn’t mean that I agree one hundred percent with what it says, cause I am not sure it is like that for real. I think I would add this “…or those we still have to find” even if this would spoil the melancholy of it…
